Question: What do you know about the 70th BEB history?
Answer: The 70th Engineer Battalion traces its lineage back to 15 July 1941, when it was constituted as the 2nd Battalion 35th Engineer Regiment. The 35th played a vital role in the development and construction of more than 250 miles of Alaskan-Canadian Highway. The Unit received a Meritorious Unit Commendation for it. From 1943 to 1946 the unit reconstructed and inactivated, but it was not until 1949 it reactivated as the 70th Engineer Combat Battalion settled at Fort Campbell, Kentucky as part of the 937th Engineer group. In 1965 The battalion was the first US Combat Engineer battalion in Vietnam. After Vietnam late 1969 the battalion inactivated again at Ft Lewis, WA. The performance during Vietnam resulted in numerous accolades to include Meritorious Unit citations and the Presidential Unit Citation. 24 Years later in 1993 it became part of 1st Infantry Division (1st ID) and a vital member of the "Bulldog Brigade". The unit deployed to Iraq in 2003 and in 2005 being awarded with the Valorous Unit Award and another Meritorious Unit Citation.

Answer: Scarlet and white, are those of the corps of Engineers. The fleurs-de-lis scattered over the sheild symbolize the organization's World War II service in Europe, and the curved diagonal band represents outstanding service in the construction of the AlCan Highway.
