Answer: You need to give clear instructions in your classes.

Question: how to give instructions

Answer: They have to be simple and clear for students to follow. Be simple and economical. Aim for 2 or 3 word instruction. Use simple verbs like LOOK! TELL ME. ASK. CIRCLE. SAY. LISTEN. etc.

Answer: Don’t ask too much at one. Break instructions in small chunks. Use body language whenever possible.

Question: What do you need to bear in mind when giving instructions?

Answer: That your learners are children so put yourself in their shoes. They have limited reading and writing skills. English isn’t their first language. This could be the 1st time they have any lessons in English. Take this into consideration when giving instructions.

Answer: Kids at this age respond well to visual like props & TPR. They are very active and need physical movement& activities to stimulate their thinking.

Question: What happens when they don’t follow?

Answer: make sure to break down the instructions in a way that a five year old with limited English will understand. make them as simple as possible.

Answer: ask targeted questions that will illicit complete responses. Explain the how to in simple terms. difficulty is gradual when the student is ready
