What Does Cell Membrane Do

Question: What is the cell membrane’s structure?:

Answer: -Proteins and phospholipids

-Cholesterol

-Glycolipids

-Glycoproteins

Question: Functions of the cell membrane?:

Answer: To protect the cell from its surroundings. It also recognizes certain chemicals and molecules that can or can’t go into the cell.

Question: What is passive transport?:(Simple diffusion)

Answer: The movement of materials from high concentration to low concentration without the use of ATP(energy).

Question: What is active transport?

Answer: The movement of materials across a semi permeable cell membrane from a region of low concentration to a region of high concentration with the use of ATP(energy)Proteins in the cell membrane are involved.

Question: What is facilitated diffusion?:

Answer: Diffusion(goes) through a protein from a concentration gradient of high to low.Uses no ATP.Has large or charged molecules.
