Question: why were the ideas of Democritus not accepted?

Answer: Democritus’s ideas were rejected by other philosophers of his time because he could not answer or explain what held atoms together as he did not know. Also his ideas did not agree with the ideas of other philosophers of the time.

Answer: All matter is composed of small particles called atoms. Atoms cannot be destroyed. All atoms of a given element are identical. Atoms of different elements combine in whole number ratios to form compounds. In chemical reactions, atoms are rearranged, separated, and combined.
