The Amount Of Momentum An Object Gains And/Or Loses.

Momentum

An object's "collision strength." (P=mv)

Impulse

The amount of momentum an object gains and/or loses. (J=ft)

Units

p= kg m/s
m= kg
v= m/s

example of momentum

A car and a truck are about to collide head-on! The winner of the collision will always be be the vehicle with the greater...

Acceleration

The rate at which velocity changes

Example of average speed

Two car's are racing! The winner of the race will always be be the vehicle with the greater...

Newton's Third Law

For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

head on collision

both lose momentum

rear-end collisions when 2nd car not moving

car moving: loses momentum
car not moving: gains momentum

rear- end collision when both cars moving same way

car that's hit the other car: loses momentum
2nd car: gains momentum
(both cars will end up going the same direction)

inelastically head on collision

make the right side negative (-v)

rule for direction

if you loose more momentum that you started with switch directions
